SHIFT was a photo shoot done on December 25th, 2010 near the Tokyo Tower. Japan has always been a country of continuous shifts and changes. Whether it be the world-wide curiosity it became after the arrival of Commodore Perry’s infamous Black Ships, the monstrous Tokyo Kid of the 1940s or the modern pop culture giant as it stands now, Japan has somehow managed to remain its own.
This photoshoot is a light-hearted look and reflection of some of those contrasts that it holds in the popular imagination. Despite the use of the Imperial Flag and some wartime slogans, there is no political message intended in any of these images. The focus was on general aesthetics and more of a social message that Life Goes On.
That and superheroes can be real jerks sometimes.
